Uranus (or Ouranos) was an ancient god into the sky. The Greeks imagined a heaven, solid brass dome, decorated with stars that fell on the outermost edges of the cross-flat terrain. Uranus was literally in the sky, just as his wife, Gaia was the earth.
Uranus and Gaia the father of twelve son and six daughters. The oldest of them – the giant Cyclops Hekatonkheires – closed in the womb of the Earth. Gaia has suffered immense pain and persuaded her rebellious son Titan. Four of them were defined as sentinels around the world, ready to seize his father as he came to be on Earth. The fifth was held in the center, and armed with an adamantine sickle, castrated Uranus, while his brothers held up well. The blood of the god of the sky fell and soaked into the ground, production and vengeful Erinyes Gigantes.
After his fall, autumn Ouranos prophesied Titans and the punishment they suffer for their crimes a prophecy which was subsequently supported by Zeus, who filed brothers and thrown into the pit of Tartarus.
Uranos not appear in early Greek art, however, representations of the Egyptian sky-goddess Nut to see how he had imagined – like a giant man Star Spangled with long arms and legs that rested on all fours, with his finger councils in the Far East, his toes in the far west, and his overall body raised to form the vault of heaven. In the art of Roman times, it has often been described as Aion, the god of eternity in the guise of a man standing on the prostrate form of Gaia (Earth) with the wheel of the zodiac hand .
