Pergamon, Pergamum or Pérgamo ( Turkish: Bergama )

Pergamon was an ancient Greek city, which is occupied by the modern city of Bergama (Izmir province). Most of the monuments and buildings in Pergamum were built in high quality white marble in the Hellenistic style dates back to 197-159 BC better and Pergamum was one of the seven churches of Revelation.

Pergamum has 3 main parts, such as the Acropolis, the lower city and Asklepion. Acropolis is located on a hill overlooking the city of Bergama and the view from the top is great. It is the highest, and arguably the most beautiful age of Pergamon. There are columns reconstructed from the Greek and Roman theater and a huge slope overlooking the valley of the Acropolis. The Theater of Pergamon is one of the largest theaters in the world and had a capacity of 10,000 people.

Asklepion has beautiful remains of a famous medical school, which apparently focused on the treatment of mentally ill and it was more like a modern spa in a hospital. The library at Pergamum was undoubtedly one of the largest collections of documents written in the ancient world, and is supposed to rival that of Alexandria in Egypt. Today, many of Pergamum is on display in Berlin, Germany, but the Turkish government tries to return from Germany took the matter to the international court.

The bustling city of Bergama is most famous for being home to Asclepion. Although it probably has as much as Ephesus to take on passengers, is much less visited. This, together with its relaxed and friendly and great attractions, it becomes a need for independent travelers.

Many visitors end up falling for Bergama. It was a village here since the times of Troy, Pergamon, but the heyday was during the period from Alexander the Great and Roman rule all of Asia Minor, where he was one of the Middle East’s richest and most powerful kingdoms small.
